Mahindra GenZe, the American electric two wheeler making subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate, has announced that it will be participating in the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 (CES) which is set to open its doors to the media on January 5 in Las Vegas. The GenZe has two electric two wheelers in its current lineup – the GenZe 2.0 scooter and the E-Bike – both of which are targeted at urban dwelling youngsters. The company’s two wheelers value excellent practicality and functionality over form. There could be a new product or technology showcase at the CES 2015.
The GenZe 2.0 is a minimalistic zero emission two wheeler which employs an exposed lightweight aluminium exoskeleton single-piece chassis which constitutes most of the bodywork. The Back Bay carrying bin sits in place of a pillion seat and is voluminous enough to accommodate backpacks, groceries, etc.
The scooter is motivated by a hub-mounted brush-less permanent magnet motor which generates a healthy torque of 130 Nm, strong enough to carry 125 kg of weight (rider and payload). Power to the motor comes from a 1.6 kWh Li-Ion battery pack which can be removed from the vehicle easily if the owner wishes to charge it indoors.
A full charge can be achieved in 3.5 hours through a 110 V 5 amps socket and a maximum range is claimed to be 30 miles (48.3 km). The scooter can reach speeds of up to 30 miles (48.3 kph) and it can hit the limit in under 8 seconds. Of course, the runabout benefits from regenerative braking and front disc brake.
The salient feature is the 7-inch Cruise-Connect touchscreen display which provides speed, range, battery status and charge state, energy consumption, and Co2 reduction. It also has a copy of owners manual and can be secured with a password. The scooter also comes with wireless charging facility for laptops, mobile phones and tablets.
